Six Taft High employees reassigned over hazing allegations
L.A. Unified and LAPD officials are investigating whether the Woodland Hills school's principal, volleyball coach and four other employees knew about a hazing incident and didn't report it. Six employees at Taft High School were reassigned Tuesday while school district and law enforcement officials investigate an alleged hazing incident in the boys locker room on the Woodland Hills campus. Los Angeles Unified School District officials declined to identify the employees who were removed from the school and assigned to district offices, but district sources said Principal Sharon Thomas and volleyball coach Arman Mercado were among them. Thomas and Mercado could not be reached for comment Tuesday. The six employees were disciplined because they allegedly did not report the hazing in a timely manner. The incident, which only involved students, was reported to the Los Angeles Police Department on Jan. 30. But top school district officials said they were not aware of the incident until Feb. 17. "A child abuse report that may not have been filed is of great concern to us," said David Holmquist, the district's chief operating officer. District officials and police officials are also investigating if the hazing incident is part of a series of such behavior at the school. An LAPD news release said that on Feb. 20, "additional information was provided to the LAPD which indicated that the scope of the possible criminal activity extended beyond an isolated incident." The suspended employees will work in nonschool settings until the investigation is completed, according to Holmquist. Mercado, who coaches both the girls and boys volleyball teams, was awarded the California Interscholastic Federation's Model Coach award in 2006. His boys teams have reached the city championships six times in his eight years as coach. At a Tuesday meeting of about 450 spring-sport athletes and coaches at Birmingham High School in Van Nuys, the school's athletic director, Rick Prizant, said the alleged Taft incident was a reminder to students and administrators that they must immediately notify law enforcement officials if they suspect hazing.

Two Thumbs Up for Madea Goes to Jail!
There were no Academy Award-nominated films in the top three this weekend! Oscar weekend's box office winner was the Tyler Perry flick, Madea Goes to Jail. It pulled in a very respectable $41.1 million! According to reports, it was the largest opening weekend gross on the fewest amount of screens ever (2,032) - and the highest grossing weekend opening in Lionsgate history. Liam Neeson's movie, Taken, is still performing well in the theaters! It came in at #2 with $11.4 million. It is nearing the $100 million mark. Wow! Rounding out the top three is Focus Features' Coraline. The Teri Hatcher-voiced flick brought home another $11 million. We're bummed that we didn't have time to see it in 3-D. We hear this past weekend was the last time you could see it in 3-D glory. Boo hoo.

"The Fashion Show"
Some of the most respected names in the fashion industry join the panel of Bravo's newest creative competition series, "The Fashion Show." Internationally acclaimed designer Isaac Mizrahi shares hosting duties with four-time Grammy Award-winning performer and actress Kelly Rowland. Mizrahi and Rowland will also serve as judges alongside fashion luminary and Senior Vice President of IMG Fashion, Fern Mallis. The competition series is produced by 3 Ball Productions and, as previously announced, will air on Bravo later this year. "The Fashion Show" follows professional designers as they strive to make their mark in the dog-eat-dog world of fashion and compete for a chance to have their designs sold for the mass retail market. The designers will face off in challenges and have their fate determined not only by the professional judges, but also by a studio audience. In the end, the winner will have their designs available for sale by a major retail outlet.

Look Who's On The Cover!
It’s 7:50 a.m. on a brisk December morning at Sherwood Country Club just west of L.A., and Justin Timberlake is not only awake; the dude is looking crisp. Like out-of-the-box crisp. Like he could go ahead, right this minute, and tee it up in front of a half-dozen television cameras: pressed black slacks, a slim white golf shirt, and a black-gray-and-white argyle sweater vest, Justin Timberlake graces the cover for GQ.

MEET MR. MILEY
JUSTIN GASTON MAY BE BEST KNOWN FOR DATING MILEY CYRUS, BUT THE 20-YEAR-OLD MODEL IS A BREAKOUT STAR IN HIS OWN RIGHT Every tween across America has heard the name Justin Gaston, usually prefaced by the phrase “spotted with.” The Pineville, Louisiana, native is the boyfriend of teenage superstar Miley Cyrus, aka Hannah Montana (though neither has ever officially confirmed the relationship). He’s 20 and she’s 16, which might seem a bit scandalous, but they claim to be chaste. They go to church together and are both Christians. And father Billy Ray Cyrus approves.
